Dix Bougies, the contemporary chandelier

Des lignes
Aleatoires et dynamiques
Se croisent et propagent l’énergie
Une, deux, trois… jusque dix
Bougies de papier
Transforment l’énergie en lumière
Un chandelier minimal
Une lumière douce
Une ambiance
Flotte au-dessus des tables
Et calme l’atmosphère

Odile Decq

Some lines
Aleatory and dynamic
Intersect and spread energy
One, two, three… until ten
Paper candles
Transform energy into light
A minimal chandelier
Soft light
A mood
Floats over the tables
And calms the atmosphere

An Elegant Game of Balance

After the great success of the organic Pétale and Soleil Noir models, for the occasion Studio Odile Decq has developed a new lamp with rigorous, austere design, concealing a refined technological breakthrough.

Dix Bougies is a contemporary chandelier, but it also makes vivid reference to the past: five aluminium arms, attached to each other, feature light sources at their extremities (ten in all), intersecting in a game of balance to give rise to an elegant composition.

Dix Bougies has a technical structure – with overall length of 180 cm and maximum width of 70 cm – composed of a long horizontal aluminium extrusion and four other parts that intersect in an asymmetrical and apparently random way.

The passage of current inside the arms conveys it to the ends, where LED light sources are enhanced by a diffuser made with a sophisticated paper based on a mixture of cellulose and synthetic fibers (diameter 3.3 cm, height 15 cm). This stylistic choice has the aim of making the structure light and graceful

The light diffuser spreads soft, decorative lighting into spaces, suggesting the glow of a candle from a distant past; a slender metal ring placed at the base of the diffuser and bonded with it permits attachment through an enjoyable gesture, thanks to small magnets placed on a runner.

They can feature either a smooth surface or a pattern created through an engraving process: by using a mold, pressure and heat cause the cellulose layer to burn away, leaving only the polymer exposed. This process generates translucent textures that define the diffuser both when the lamp is on and off.

The latter part embodies multiple functions: besides ensuring the stability of the diffuser and containing the LED light source, it closes the extremities of the arms and houses the counter-weights that compensate for the asymmetry of the lamp, keeping Dix Bougies – sustained by three cables – in perfect balance.

The lamp is also available in a smaller version of this design, the new Dix Bougies petit, which houses six diffusers.
