Hono: elegance between technology and poetry

“Hono” light as air. The Hono project was born from the desire to reinterpret the concept of a Japanese lantern in a modern way, where a light and delicate paper volume floats in the air, illuminating the surroundings.

We wanted to create an object that was weightless, compact, and efficient, capable of fitting into various environments while emitting a warm and enveloping light.

In Japanese, Hono means “flame,” a noun that encapsulates the essence of our lamp: an immaterial presence that, like fire, brings light and warmth to the environment.

Turning Light into Atmosphere

Lightness and elegance are the earmarks of Hono, the new lamp by the studio Mandalaki. The Milan-based group has developed a new product based on the innovative research conducted by Luceplan and the minimalist aesthetic that has always set these designers apart.

From the Japanese word for “flame,” the light emitted by Hono – and the materials used in its production – suggests the warmth of a glowing lantern.

It consists of a slender metal structure, made up of a cylindrical base and a thin stem that houses a LED in source that spreads the glow at 360°.

The more technical and rigorous body of the lamp is combined with an ethereal diffuser made in 100% cotton paper, whose delicate power of emission generates a relaxing, immersive atmosphere.

This choice jibes with the minimalist spirit of Mandalaki, but at the same time it has another purpose: to avoid weighing down the entire structure, thus ensuring its stability. The diffuser returns to the geometry of the base, keeping the same diameter; the light that crosses it, however, changes in terms of perception, revealing the dense pattern. A material with high performance, whose delicate power of emission generates a relaxing, immersive atmosphere.

The Hono lighting family is composed of different interpretations: the floor version—the original piece from which the entire collection evolved—the table version, and the vertical pendant, both of which recall the aesthetics and technology of the floor model.

The range now expands with the introduction of the new horizontal and vertical track-mounted pendants, easily installed with a convenient adapter for maximum versatility.

The Hono lamp family features a compact, versatile design that offers a modern reinterpretation of the Japanese lantern. Its light diffuser envelops the slender stem and appears to rise into the air, illuminating the surrounding space.
