The 40th anniversary of Costanza
(…) The modernity of Costanza lies precisely in this: not to break with the tradition but to recover it, granting it a new life with the tools, materials and technologies of the present. It is an operation of subtraction not only in the form, but also in the technology, which makes the lamp ready for dismantling into parts, permitting industrial reproduction.
For me, the project means ‘to cast forward,’ to take a step ahead with respect to what already exists, getting closer to contemporary sensibilities.

For the 40th anniversary of Costanza, the lamp designed in 1986 by Paolo Rizzatto, Luceplan presents three new shades with special patterns, a project that renews the identity of this icon without altering its lightness and formal balance.
With the new shades, Luceplan continues this exploration: the shade becomes a graphic surface capable of interacting with light and generating constantly different atmospheres, while conserving the archetypal essence that has made Costanza a versatile presence in contemporary living spaces.
In the new collection, the white lampshade takes on three dimensions thanks to three different interpretations of its surface

PLEATED
The first shade embodies a graphic effect that suggests the folds of pleating, creating the illusion of a soft, light material.
DIAMOND
The second features a pattern of small checks, subdivided in four triangles: each face has a different opacity, generating a 3D pyramid effect that is fully revealed when the lamp is on.

STRIPED
The third option explores a more essential graphic solution, a very thin and dense vertical line that adds elegance and rhythm to the surface.
Forty years after its debut, Costanza thus continues to evolve without losing its precise identity: an essential and flexible design, capable of adapting to different contexts and languages, from contemporary minimalism to the most classical tradition.
The balance between tradition and innovation
Ever since its creation, Costanza has stood out for the intuition of reinterpreting a classic shade lamp with innovative technological solutions.
These include the introduction of a polycarbonate sheet for the diffuser – light and removable – and a sensorial touch dimmer to turn the lamp on and off, and to adjust light intensity with a simple gesture.
The balance between structure and lightness has allowed the collection to evolve, preserving its recognizable image.

From the original family in the floor, table, wall and suspension versions, to the birth of Costanzina in 1992, all the way to the variations of Lady Costanza, Grande Costanza and Grande Costanza Open Air, the collection has gradually expanded, adapting to the widest range of contexts – from the home to the office, from hospitality structures to outdoor spaces
Over the years, the research has also extended to color, with the definition in 2013 of the Radieuse and Mezzo Tono palettes, by Studiopepe, designed to bring out values of material quality in the matte surfaces of the diffusers.
